Erasmus+ Maritime Program with A’ Technical School of Limassol: A Journey into Real Maritime Training
Between May 2025 and the blue horizon of the Aegean, we had the pleasure of welcoming students from A’ Technical School of Limassol, Cyprus, as part of the Erasmus+ program 2024-1-CY01-KA121-VET-000204882, for a two-week educational experience focused on maritime studies.
The program was designed to bridge theory and practice, offering the participants hands-on exposure to real working conditions in the maritime sector. Through carefully selected visits, interactions with experts, and structured activities, students gained a deeper understanding of what it means to be part of the maritime industry today.
Key Educational Activities and Institutional Visits
- Visit to the Merchant Marine Academy of Michaniona
The students had the opportunity to explore one of Greece’s most renowned institutions for maritime education. They were introduced to the academic structure, simulators, and training methodology used to prepare future captains and engineers, gaining insight into life on board and responsibilities at sea.
- Visit to the 4th Fire Department at the Port of Thessaloniki
This visit offered students a first-hand look at emergency preparedness and crisis response in a port environment. Firefighters explained the specific challenges they face in maritime incidents and demonstrated equipment and techniques used in shipboard firefighting and rescue operations.
- Special Training Session with Mr. Georgios Bogias
A highlight of the program was the presentation and hands-on session led by Mr. Georgios Bogias, an experienced professional in the maritime field. Through his guidance, students explored practical aspects of seamanship, safety regulations, vessel operations, and professional ethics — essential knowledge for anyone pursuing a career in the industry.
Beyond the Classroom: A Holistic Erasmus+ Experience
This program wasn’t limited to technical learning. It fostered:
- International cooperation between educational institutions and professionals.
- Cultural exchange, allowing Cypriot students to experience the Greek maritime landscape, both historical and modern.
- Professional inspiration, as many students expressed renewed motivation and clarity about their future career paths.
Through this initiative, the Erasmus+ program once again proved its value in connecting knowledge with real-world experience. Students returned not only with greater confidence and practical skills but also with the understanding that the maritime profession requires discipline, responsibility, adaptability, and above all, teamwork.
We are proud to have hosted such a dedicated group of future maritime professionals and remain committed to supporting mobility programs that empower youth and build bridges between countries through education.
